The season leading up to Christmas is called advent, but many don't even know what advent means.

An advent is a wait. In the case of Christmas we wait for Christ's birth, but that doesn't mean it's the only advent in our lives.

This three part series leading up to the coming of Christ on Christmas Day, talks about why we celebrate during the holiday season.

It also reminds us that we don't just wait for Him at the Christmas season, sometimes in life we just wait for Him in our everyday lives to come and help us through hard times.

But in the end He always comes to us with the promise of joy and peace in our lives if we choose to live for Him.

Sermons included:

  1. The Subversive Hope explains the significance of advent, how we're currently between two advents, and how we can have hope in two advents and one kingdom, the way it was meant to be.
  2. Peace for Everyone answers three important questions Christians have during the advent. Why did Jesus come to earth? Who are the lost? What does it mean to be "saved"?
  3. Unexpected Joy tells us how we can prepare for the coming of Christ and find joy in the emotion of hope, even during hard times in our lives.

This resource includes:

  • MP3 audio of each message for easy listening on the go no matter if you use iPhone or Android, or any other MP3 player.
  • Transcripts to read when listening might not be an option, or you want to go back and highlight a passage you particularly enjoyed.
  • Outlines (blank and with fill-ins) to follow along with while listening so you can really absorb and understand the messages.
  • Message slides (.jpeg and PowerPoint) that can be used as a visual display to aid in teaching others.

Part 1 of the series The Promise Fulfilled

In this Advent season, we're preparing our hearts and focusing our minds on celebrating Jesus' birth. This week, we're learning about the word "hope" and what it means for the Christmas season. We live between two Advents — Jesus coming to Earth as a baby, and Jesus one day returning as King. Dr. Ed Stetzer talks about the hope of the kingdom, the hope of the "already but not yet,"the hope we bear, and the hope of Christ. The best part is that this hope is not wishful thinking — it's hope in a God who fulfills all his promises.

In this Advent season, we're preparing our hearts and focusing our minds on celebrating Jesus' birth. This week, we're learning about the word "peace" and what it means for the Christmas season. When you look at the Christmas nativity, you see different kinds of people — the outcasts (shepherds), the elites (wisemen), and the average (Mary and Joseph). Kay Warren talks about how Jesus came to Earth for every type of person, no matter how marginalized or overlooked. He saved us by bringing peace for our past, peace for today, and peace on Earth.

Part 3 of the series The Promise Fulfilled

In this Advent season, we're preparing our hearts and focusing our minds on celebrating Jesus' birth. This week, we're learning about the word "joy" and what it means for the Christmas season. Joy is the primary emotion at Christmas — we see it on children's faces, in our decorations, and in our songs. In this message, Pastor Buddy Owens will teach us that joy and happiness are not the same thing. You can be unhappy and joyful at the same time. Happiness is based on circumstances, but joy is the emotion of hope.
